One Moment In Time
If I described a good moment...or a moment that I wanted to be remembered by...or an image that could describe my burning desires...it would look something like this:
Pottery I Ottery
Lately I have a very strong desire to participate in pottery-making. I think it would be really inspiring to have a pottery wheel in my own home where I could get creative with my hands. Not many arts include such a close relationship with the medium used to create and your own fingertips. It's such a lost art in some ways--and so much more challenging than it appears...

Plus...no one can deny having wished they could do this...what a classic...

Dalai Lama

I recently watched Seven Years in Tibet and I have a new found fascination for the Dalai Lama.
A friend told me that the Dalai Lama comes to power through a selection process including male monk children sorting through belongings--the child who selects the belongings who are previous possessions of the Dalai Lama is the reincarnated spirit of the Dalai Lama himself--and is then put into power.
You begin to wonder if these amazing individuals became so valued and intelligent through the nurturing they received by chance...if you don't believe in reincarnation--then the new Dalai Lama is only who he is because of is upbringing, correct?
Nature vs. Nurture

Lyrics That Move
I will be the answer
At the end of the line
I will be there for you
While you take the time
In the burning of uncertainty
I will be your solid ground
I will hold the balance
If you can't look down
If it takes my whole life
I won't break, I won't bend
It will all be worth it
Worth it in the end
Cause I can only tell you what I know
That I need you in my life
When the stars have all gone out
You'll still be burning so bright
Cast me gently
Into morning
For the night has been unkind
Take me to a
Place so holy
That I can wash this from my mind
The memory of choosing not to fight
If it takes my whole life
I won't break, I won't bend
It will all be worth it
Worth it in the end
'Cause I can only tell you what I know
That I need you in my life
When the stars have all burned out
You'll still be burning so bright
Cast me gently
Into morning
For the night has been unkind
At the end of the line
I will be there for you
While you take the time
In the burning of uncertainty

A Good Love Story: It Never Gets Old
Ryan Gosling has had to have his heart broken.
There is always an audience experiencing heartache. And it's an emotion easily pulled to the surface of our memories.
Motion Pictures
Great site.
The Playlist
I find myself more and more attracted to the motion picture aspect of entertainment journalism.
Are movies just fluff? Can they provide the same intellectual stimulation that books can? Why are books better? Why are movies better?
Everything in moderation I suppose.

Move Over Alex Hitchens
Goodbye Hitch.
I have played love doctor for over 6 people in the past three days. I find it so fascinating that when it comes to ourselves, to our very own "human experience" we cannot possibly find the right advice to follow. But when someone else comes to me, I am absolutely CERTAIN of the advice they need to take and follow. And so I dish it. A little potion from the expert:) Just take your pick. To each his own. No one relationship problem is the same, right?
Perhaps the real reason for communication is point blank that we need to consciously say things out loud and be reassured that someone is not only listening but reacting or relating. Do people need someone else to be aware in order for reality to be real to them?
Too bad the URL lovedoctor.com is probably already taken.

Time to Bust Out the Christmas Tunes
I feel that given my birthday (November 9th) I have the right to submit to Christmas music on November 10th. Nothing is more uplifting than some holiday tunes...here is a classic that hits home for me every single year unfailingly. :)
Bring on the lights, the candy canes and hot cider, the pea coats, the fireside snuggles, and if you're really lucky...the SNOW!

A Duty to Share the Message
A journalist is indeed one who should take responsibility in reporting the truth. Aside from this, a journalist is there to share experiences in which others have not or will not have the opportunity to learn from.
I realized this tonight in the Cadaver Lab of a local university.

While the small babies in jars as large as 28 weeks only provoked painstaking sadness, the realization of the fragility of the veins, bones, and arteries of the human body inspired me. At any moment, the slice or cut of something so easily cuttable, could end the life of the cavity in which our minds dwell.
The control of the mind over the body, and the sensitivity to which I believe cadavers ought to be treated with prompted so many thoughts today about the human experience.
Medicine is a theology we created on our own. Every vocabulary word, every process, mankind invented on its own. Evolution of the study of the body--what an interesting turn of invents. I wonder if some nights God looked down from heaven and thought, "Man (or perhaps he uses another noun here for exclamation?), today these kiddos really deserve an applause." or maybe he thought, "what idiots, this seemed so obvious during creation."

Robert Downey Jr.
Cool quote. I endorse it.
"Jail didn't help me any more or less than anything else. But I know I created that experience for a reason, and I'm only just starting to understand those reasons. Remember this is California… 'Come on vacation, leave on probation.' I mean, I can't believe I stayed out of the pen for as long as I did. And I didn't mind it inside really; it wasn't so bad.
Listen, a prison is just like a public school. Did you ever go on a film set on location? It's just like prison. Have you ever been in a bad relationship? It's just like having a celly (cellmate) who wants to kill you. Have you ever been in a street fight? It's just like chow-time (meal time). Have you ever been to a rave-up? It's like a yard riot. I wouldn't wish it on anybody, but it neither fazed me, nor changed me, nor informed me - but maybe it toughened me up a little bit."

Plans Fall Apart
I had this cute idea of posting a picture of Cinderella and Prince Charming, as an advocate of fairytale endings--old school Disney style...but then I realized relationships are as delicate as the creation and existence of our planet Earth.
Circumstances have to be JUST SO in order for anything to really work out. Why do people make the decisions they do? Dating is so hard... and just like the Earth--conditions of air, water, gravity, space from the sun...exact moments of atoms colliding, certain matter being created, other matters not being present...this idea becomes intimidating. In relationships, we have to be creators. Why and HOW in the universe do things work out when they do?

If it is ever really going to work: you both have to be in the same place at the same time...you both have to be single, you both have to be just out of a relationship long enough that you want one, but not so long that you're desperate, but long enough that you're over the person you were last with. You need similar interests, desires, goals, backgrounds, senses of humor, ideas about and for education, religion, not to mention the complicated chemical that is attraction. No one story is the same as any other. And each time we think it COULD work out--someone freaks out, or someone forces it, or someone cheats....next thing you know it's square one. BOOM.

Forget you Cinderella.
Screw Prince Charming.

Love these pants

"When we were growing up, our mother taught us never to have your belly button exposed," Mary-Kate adds. This low-key, tempered sensuality is the spine of their collection. The Row lady doesn't need to put it all out there because she has something going on "in here." This mood was reflected in the Olsens' Fall 2010 presentation, just 19 looks in a simple palette, worn with the same summery flat: a black wrap coat, a precise white shift dress, a languid jumpsuit—all the pieces girls want but have a devil of a time actually finding. Resort had a similar quiet confidence, each look paired with vintage Prada loafers. Both Olsens are huge Prada fans. "Miuccia's spin always has a sense of humor, which I love," Ashley says. "Céline's quite amazing too," adds Mary-Kate.
Though the two don't fantasize about giving anyone a "Row-over," they would like to dress the first lady. "I'd love to get Michelle Obama in the Row," Ashley says. "The simple suits and things. It's all made in America, so why not?" But the two chalk up their first success to Lauren Hutton, whom both are "obsessed with" and who was shot for Forbes in 2007 "on a motorcycle in our leather leggings. I think there's nothing chicer than that," says Ashley. The Olsens have in fact already appeared in Forbes—the first time as kids. Toddler titans? "Nah," says Ashley, giggling. "The Most Powerful Crawlers."
So, newly 24, newly East Coast, but always in control, Mary-Kate and Ashley are, yes, getting their ducks in a row. And 24, the age when you can take New York by storm, is the perfect time to do it. "Ah, but," says Mary-Kate, looking at Ashley with an old-soul smile, "we're 48."

Lucky Ones
On the edge of a moment
In a land that we love
In a time that our best has to be good enough
Like all those before us we start out alone
We race from our school yards into the unknown
City lights, as far as the eye can see
You and I, we will live differently
With our hearts in our hands like loaded guns
We're taking our chance, we're the lucky ones
This moment is yours, this moment is mine,
And we're gonna be fine
Oh oh oh...
Searching for love counting steps as we go
Our parents they taught us there's no way to know
I still hear their voices in the back of my head
Saying you'll do it better than we ever did
City lights, as far as the eye can see
You and I, we'll do it differently
With our hearts in our hands like loaded guns
We're taking our chance, we're the lucky ones
This moment is yours, this moment is mine,
And we're gonna be fine
Oh oh oh... Oh oh oh...
City lights, stretching from sea to sea
You and I, it was meant to be
With our hearts in our hands like loaded guns
We're taking our chance, we're the lucky ones

And we're gonna be fine
yeah, we're gonna be fine, yeah yeah…

We Were Meant to be in Pairs
Every girl has a few fairytale experiences where things turned out just right....where you were literally so happy there was nothing you could do but squeal, jump up and down, or run quickly to the phone to tell someone the thing you were just able to experience...
I have this abiding fear that I won't feel satisfied at the end of my life, but I do know that so far I'm only 22 and I've had SEVERAL fairy tale and deep rooting moments...
-Running through a cruise ship with an exotic person from another country and being kissed at the end of the night
-Sharing a first kiss with someone in the rain
-Being told I was loved and loved someone else back
-Seeing places that truly boggle the senses
-Exploring physical connection with someone I cared about
-Becoming friends with someone just because of the unique circumstances that brought us to the same place
-Listening to a song that can make you smile for no reason
-Getting truly deeply hurt
-Taking care of something or someone who couldn't care for themselves
-Being a teacher
-Experiencing physical exhaustion
-Having an embarrassing obsession
-Eating exotic food
-Holding a newborn baby
-Truly feeling sorry about something you've done
-Having a sense of resolve with your family
-Being spiritually confident that your beliefs and value system will truly carry you to amazing places.

Some Thoughts 4 U
I have a natural tendency to disobey and I've never liked following rules.
Sometimes I feel dangerously ambitious.
I love all coffee drinks but I don't drink them.
I'm a nerd at heart.
Christmastime makes me feel romantic.
I get really caught up in Celebrity news.

Inspiration
Tonight I saw a movie that made me want to move to LA and be a screen writer...do something important and substantial to speak to the masses....It's been eating away at me for months now... Perhaps California is on the horizon.............
PS>Is it possible to know someone better than they know themselves? Cause that's what I want in my relationship..................

Restless
I was talking with my roommate tonight and she made me realize I quite possibly have a fear of settling down... not necessarily commitment but just staying in place.
I'm really scared I'll miss out on adventure...on traveling... I keep wanting to move or plan a big trip.
I guess there is more than one kind of commitment issue...
New Zealand? London? Spain?

Twilight as seen on OPRAH
Tonight in my usual location in bed, laptop in hand, tv on, dog under the covers, I watched Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner on YouTube on Oprah. As ridiculous as I find woman who can't maintain a squeeckyless voice around these individuals, I thought it was really cool how Robert Pattinson maintained such a modest attitude toward all of the hoopla (yes hoopla). He jokes so casually and describes the months prior to his opportunity on these films--saying he had called his parents just weeks before this last audition for Twilight saying he was going to give up acting, that it just wasn't working for him....and now just a few short years later, he's 2 movies into a trilogy that is affecting the world...he was voted 100 most influential and most BEAUTIFUL by People magazine! There is nothing else in the world that makes you crave success and influence than hearing someone talk about their pre-successful life, I'll always wonder if there really is something that sets individuals apart--whether there really is talent, hard-work, Other-worldly power or ANYTHING that brings certain people to celebrate their lives and opportunities and accomplishments in such a HUGE WAY versus people who never get to experience things on what you could barely refer to as the FIRST level...I mean most people in the world are ILLITERATE.

As a Fellow Lady...
I came across this article about Food/Dieting/Women, and unlike most articles printed every hour on the hour, it had some spunk. It's about written by a curvier supermodel gone ridiculously thin (not by her choice but due to health reasons) gone back. I love the way she talks about food...
"Over the years I have been exposed to women with extraordinary bodies, some of whom are naturally blessed with them, and others who have to fight for every inch. Some are reed-thin and others creamily voluptuous. The happiest are the ones for whom eating is pleasure, rather than something to be held hostage by. These women are sexy. They share a total ease around food and the understanding that whatever their shape or size, they steer the ship in which they sail. Women have historically given such power to food, yet food is inanimate. There is nothing sensual about militant restriction. It is infertility, osteoporosis, and bleeding gums. It saps and withers. Balanced food is fuel, one that often inspires a sense of gratitude and wonder. It gives us energy to run around after our toddler, to swim across a lake, to dance all night should we want to. So much memory is wrapped up in food and taste, from the bittersweetness of chocolate recalling a breakup to the heart-plumping burned toast proffered by a child on Mother's Day. In our chronologies of memorable meals, the first thought that comes to mind isn't "And the calorie count was?" Instead we are left with the tangible reminder of lying on the beach on a summer's day, an ice-cream cone tempered with sea-salty fingers, a lover handing over an oyster when the restaurant has emptied unnoticed around you, the nourishing broth you are given when someone has died, each tiny sip a reminder that you have to carry on.
In working with food I have come to respect it, the intricacies and flavors that each add up to making it good, indifferent, or revolting."
Conde Nast may seem superficial at times, it may run ads with impossibly flawless images to sell things we don't always need, but it sure has some good writers:)

The Love Haze
People should be required to carry a side affects list when they leave the house. It would be just like prescription bottles with labels and warnings (stomach ache, nausea, etc) except these would say things like, if you fall for me I'll buy you lots of things, if you fall for me you'll have to put up with my crazy parents...if you fall for me you'll never be able to think clearly again.
It's ridiculous how easily all common sense and good-decision making skills go out the window the second you realize a certain someone has the ability to give you that uncanny smile you've been searching for ever since you lost it the first time.
I call it the Love Haze. It's like a fog--a ridiculously clouded mind, one where choosing what would make sense just seems crazy and where the ones who just aren't good for you seem just what you need...
This one goes out to all those fools who are really stuck in the FOG.

1 month in
So it's been almost a month that I've worked the blue collar...surprisingly tough!
Frustrated tonight...don't think I'll ever really learn the patience I need...
Still waiting on summer plans--it's nice to be with family though.
Who's ready for a vacation?

Salt Lake Magazine
I applied for an internship with Salt Lake Magazine. This is what I said:
I am a recent college grad (BS Utah State ’09) and, like many of my fellow 20 something’s who are young, talented, and vying for their first job, I would like to work in an industry that I love and that I feel passionate about: publication. In the next paragraph I describe my experience, but I’d like to describe myself first and why I feel like this internship would be a great opportunity for you and also for myself. I’m a fitness nut, a night owl who loves to be out, I’m the kind of girl who finds a bistro and curls up with magazines for three hours. I love a challenge and I’m passionate about my work. I’m someone who wants to stay close to family and help Utah to continue to find its place on the map. I’m incredibly organized (some would say anal retentive--I often find myself compared to Cameron Diaz in Holiday or Sandra Bullock in The Proposal). When I found Salt Lake Magazine, I knew this was where I wanted to start my post-college career in journalism—because the way you describe yourself (glossy regional publication focused on dining, arts and entertainment, local issues, personalities, and living well in Utah) is what I want my life to be about.
Aside from being punctual and extremely capable, I’m able to multitask better than the average individual. I complete assignments on deadline without any struggle. I have traveled all over the world including art history tours in Europe and food tastings on celebrity resorts in Hawaii. I’ve worked on both coasts in the United States: acting as a personal assistant for Cathy Mann Designs (for Cathy herself) in San Francisco, Calif. and creating online content for the Women’s Sports Foundation in New York—while there I had the privilege of interviewing US Olympic Gold Medalists such as Shawn Johnson. Although these experiences have greatly contributed to the way I see and write about the world today, I want to live and work in Utah. I would be thrilled to join a team that promotes Utah, and specifically Salt Lake, as one of the most desirable places in the US to live, work, and play.
The experience I have gained writing news, features, or other stories; creating, editing and producing online content; working in a fast-paced metropolitan environment; generating graphic design and editing video—in addition to my degree, will only aid the team at Salt Lake Magazine. In times of economic concern or perhaps rumor of a dying industry, I find myself excited to be on the brink of ever-evolving new media; society is only waiting to embrace what new tools journalists will use to deliver information to the masses. If I were given the opportunity, I know I could successfully combine my passion, experience and work ethic to contribute to the unique combination of talent that produces Salt Lake Magazine.
Would you hire me?

Some Cool Photos I've Come Across
Photography
I'm starting this blog because I always have something to say. I love architecture, photography, books, magazines, web sites, exercise, horses, working under pressure, good salads, and being on the water!
This is a place for me to take the pictures of the things that I love and share the news about the things that I learn.
Today I researched the ipad.
See here:
Apple is amazing.
I miss Palo Alto and NY.
